Beth Young, publisher of The East End Beacon, leads a grassroots news outlet serving the five towns of the East End. Since 2013, the Beacon has focused on local challenges such as housing, coastal resilience, and the seasonal economy. At a time when informed communities are essential, local journalism is both vital and increasingly threatened. Join Beth for an in-depth conversation exploring the increased importance of small town journalism to grass roots awareness.

About the Speaker: Beth Young, born and raised on the North Fork, is Editor and Publisher of the East End Beacon, which she founded as a website in 2013 and as a weekly area newspaper in 2017. She received a Master’s Degree in Journalism from Columbia University in 2007 and has reported for the Sag Harbor Express, Southampton Press, East Hampton Press and Times-Review Media Group. She is a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Cutchogue Fire Department.
