Peconic Landing is united in our commitment to conservation and preservation. Members and team members meet regularly to explore environmentally sustainable practices, and our efforts are ever-changing. From creative pest control management to plant-based menu offerings, we are always exploring innovative ways to be green.

In 2016, the organization received a platinum-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for our newest apartment building. The certification is given to construction projects that aim for sustainability by creating cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. To receive the certification, Peconic Landing demonstrated sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Peconic Landing also received a “green building” certification for construction of the Community Center, and was awarded a ride-share grant of $28,000 resulting in a Long Island Transportation Award for Green Practices.

Continuing our unwavering dedication to sustainability, we consistently endeavor to meet and surpass LEED standards, integrating many eco-conscious initiatives across our campus. Some of the notable sustainability efforts that we have implemented include:

1. 1. Water Conservation: Installation of low-flow fixtures and shower heads throughout our premises, resulting in a significant 20 percent reduction in water consumption, thereby conserving this precious resource.

   2. Energy Efficiency: Adoption of Energy Star-rated washing machines and dishwashers, reflecting our commitment to energy conservation and reducing our carbon footprint.

   3. Temperature Regulation: Employing triple-insulated walls constructed from environmentally sound materials, which serve to regulate indoor temperatures effectively, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort while minimizing reliance on artificial heating and cooling systems.

   4. Landscaping Practices: Strategic planting of drought-resistant flowers and shrubs, coupled with the utilization of water-sensing sprinkler systems, to optimize irrigation practices and minimize water wastage in our outdoor spaces.

   5. Green Cleaning: Embracing the use of eco-friendly cleaners and detergents, which not only uphold the integrity of our local waterways but also contribute to a healthier indoor environment for our members and team members.

   6. Natural Pest Control: Introducing Guinea hens to our campus during the summer months as part of an innovative pesticide reduction strategy, demonstrating our commitment to exploring sustainable alternatives to conventional pest management practices.

   7. Dietary Choices: Offering a diverse array of vegan and vegetarian menu options across our dining venues, catering to the preferences of individuals seeking plant-based dietary alternatives and promoting sustainable food consumption practices.

   8. Paper Reduction Initiative: Embracing digital innovation, Peconic Landing recently launched a partnership with Icon, a leading communication software provider. This technology replaces traditional paper methods and streamlines communication among members, team members, and families with digital newsletters, event calendars, and real-time updates. This eco-friendly shift enhances efficiency and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability.
