GREENPORT, N.Y., March 24, 2025 โย Peconic Landing, the East Endโs only life plan community, is proud to announce that Sara Jones, a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the communityโs health center, has been awarded a scholarship to support her pursuit of a Registered Nurse (RN) degree through the Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) LPN to RN accelerated bridge program.
This scholarship was made possible by the Peconic Landing Community Fund, a member-driven initiative which collects member contributions to fund projects and initiatives that enhance life at Peconic Landing and are beyond the organizationโs general operating budget. This year, the Community Fund worked with the staff-led Career Pathway Committee to develop a scholarship for a Peconic Landing LPN who is ready to take the next step.
โWe are incredibly grateful to our members for their generosity in making this scholarship possible,โ said Robert J. Syron, President and CEO of Peconic Landing. โTheir contributions to the Community Fund continue to create meaningful opportunities that enrich the lives of both our members and our team. Thanks to their support, Sara and others like her can advance their careers while continuing to provide exceptional care.โ
Through this scholarship, the Community Fund covers the entire cost of tuition for the LPN to RN accelerated bridge program at SCCC (approximately $9,000 in value) and provides a transportation stipend to assist with travel expenses. For Jones, who has worked at Peconic Landing since July of 2024, this opportunity is both professional and personal.
โWorking at Peconic Landing feels like I hit the lottery,โ said Jones. โI sincerely enjoy providing a higher level of care. It makes me feel like Iโm accomplishing more, both personally and professionally. I can tell that the residents are happy here, and I know that my team and I are doing our best. It means a lot to me to be employed here.โ She added, โI want to make differences in individualsโ day-to-day as much as I possibly can. Iโve had a drive for community service since I was a kid, and this career allows me to live that out.โ
Peconic Landingโs Career Pathway Committee supports career growth and professional development through a variety of employee programs, including its tuition reimbursement program, which is available to all team members and provides up to $2,000 per semester for approved courses. The organization also offers a comprehensive benefits program that includes health insurance, dental and vision plans, life insurance, long- and short-term disability, paid time off, and a 403(b) retirement plan to which Peconic Landing contributes matching funds.
โNurses play an essential role in our community, and we are proud to invest in their success,โ said Jane Willsey, Vice President of Human Resources at Peconic Landing. โBy providing tuition coverage and additional support, we aim to make career advancement more accessible for our dedicated healthcare professionals.โ
