GREENPORT, N.Y., July 28, 2023 – Schneps Media has honored Robert J. Syron, President and CEO of Peconic Landing, as part of the 2023 Dan’s Power List of the East End. This list recognizes the most influential men and women across all industries on the East End of Long Island for their commitment, impact, and influence on the region. Syron, a licensed nursing home administrator, has over 30 years of management experience and has served Peconic Landing, the East End’s only life plan community, since 2003.
As President and CEO of the not-for-profit organization since 2003, Syron is responsible for overseeing Peconic Landing’s operations and assets, serving over 400 members and 300 team members. He has cultivated excellence by fostering a team-oriented culture, implementing long-range strategic goals, and improving member satisfaction. Under Syron’s leadership, Peconic Landing has achieved the highest standard of excellence for life plan communities, earning a Fitch investment-grade rating and international accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
“Bob’s skill, compassion, creativity, and dedication have enabled Peconic Landing to become such a successful and significant contributor to life on Long Island,” said Paul May, Chair of Peconic Landing’s Board of Trustees. “Bob works tirelessly for our members and the entire community to make our world better, and he greatly deserves this honor.”
The organization’s social accountability efforts have also thrived under Syron’s leadership. Peconic Landing has raised over $325,000 for the Greenport Fire Department with its annual John May Mile and 5K fundraiser, gives back with an annual Veterans Day Wedding Giveback at Brecknock Hall, and is a cultural arts hub for the East End, hosting a variety of cultural, educational, and wellness opportunities, available free to the public. Syron is also passionate about providing internship opportunities to nursing home administrators in training, helping to educate the next generation of leaders in the field.
“Bob is extremely passionate about serving not only our members and team members, but all of our neighbors here on the East End,” said Gregory Garrett, Peconic Landing’s Chief Operating Officer. “He is consistently looking to innovate, improve the care and services offered to our members, and make a positive difference in the greater community.”
In February of 2021, Syron led the charge and worked with Stony Brook Medicine to host the East End’s very first COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Peconic Landing. This event secured 650 vaccines for older adults, including Peconic Landing members and other older adults in the East End community. In 2022, Syron partnered again with Stony Brook Medicine to open the Center for Well-Being at Peconic Landing, bringing specialty care physicians to the East End.
Syron has spoken nationally as an advocate for older adults and holds several industry credentials including a degree in Health Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. He has earned his Certified Aging Services Professional (CASP) certification through the Coalition for Leadership in Aging Services and the University of North Texas, an honor held by approximately 2,000 individuals in the country. Syron has also been a member of Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital’s Advisory Board since 2020.
He has previously been awarded the James W. Sanderson Memorial Award for Leadership, a statewide recognition presented by LeadingAge New York, as well as Long Island Business News’ Corporate Citizenship Award for non-profit leadership. He has also been named Citizen of the Year by Congregation Tifereth Israel.
The 2023 Power List recognition was celebrated on July 25 during the annual event at Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow. For more information on Peconic Landing, visit www.peconiclanding.org.
