Peconic Landing and the Friends for Brecknock Hall are thrilled to introduce “Tuesdays at the Manor,” an engaging series of free events held at the magnificent Brecknock Hall, a gem of Long Island’s history. Open to the public, this exciting series is designed to deepen our connection to the rich cultural tapestry of our region through thought-provoking presentations led by esteemed historians and authors.
This series marks Brecknock Hall’s return to regular community programming, providing a vibrant space for learning and engagement, where visitors can immerse themselves in the history that shaped our area. Set against the stunning backdrop of Brecknock Hall, built in 1857, “Tuesdays at the Manor” promises an exceptional blend of education and culture for the East End community. Each event will spotlight intriguing topics, from local history and maritime culture to the remarkable figures who shaped our landscape.

Dr. Stephen Sanfilippo Presents “Onrust, Circumnavigating Long Island Through Historic Songs of the Sea”

- Take a historical and musical trip around Long Island with songs of the sea from the 1700s through the late 1900s.
Roselle Borrelli Presents “Greenport, The Right Place at the Wrong Time”
- Tuesday, January 21, 2025, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
- Ms. Borrelli will lead a discussion about the life of Orange Hamilton Cleaves, the builder of both Brecknock Hall and her own Greenport home, revealing the life of Greenport in the era of 1830 to 1900.
John Holzapfel Presents “The 1938 Hurricane”
- Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
- This photographic journey will illustrate the widespread destruction of the powerful and historic 1938 hurricane and its devastating impact on our coastal East End community.
Lucinda Hemmick & Ephraim Horowitz Present “Native American History”
- Tuesday, March 18, 2025, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
- The Southold Historical Society presents a discussion of historical Native Americans and how they interacted with our local landscape and resources.
With space strictly capped at 60 attendees, registration is mandatory. Registration for each session will open around the first of each month, and community members are encouraged to reserve their spots early to ensure their participation.
“Tuesdays at the Manor” is hosted by the Friends for Brecknock Hall, a group dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and utilizing Brecknock Hall for uses that will benefit the surrounding communities. Their mission is to foster community engagement through educational programs and cultural events that highlight the significance of Brecknock Hall and its surrounding history.
